Table Mountain is the most potent symbol of Africa and represents freedom in every sense of the word. It has helped to create the character of Cape Town and its people. This book is a celebration, through its magnificent photographs and fascinating text, of the chain of peaks and valleys that run from Cape Town to Cape Point, as well as the dramatic seas around it. Every plant and creature, as well as people past and present, has a story to tell, the best of which are to be found in this book. Many of these accounts, anecdotes and quotes have not been published before. They come from the hearts of people for whom Table Mountain holds great significance: people such as Madiba, Desmond Tutu and all manner of locals.
Carrie Hampton has four other travel books under her belt. Her last coffee table book, On Safari, won first prize in two categories of the Benjamin Franklin Book Awards 2006, and her travel articles can be seen in newspapers and magazines worldwide and on numerous websites. She is passionate about Cape Town: "There is something about the mountains and the sea that speaks to my very soul. Cape Town is my spiritual and physical home and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else." Andrew McIlleron has worked extensively as a photographer in the advertising industry for clients such as Ogilvy & Mather. In 2002 and 2003 he held solo exhibitions in Kalk Bay and Muizenberg entitled "Bolivia and Peru" and "Kalk Bay Fishermen" respectively. In 2003 and 2004 he was a finalist in the Brett Kebble Art Awards.
The last decade of the 19th century were troubled years in South Africa. Tension between Britain and the two Boer republics, the Transvaal and the Orange Free State, increased until war became inevitable. These turbulent times saw many notable figures pass through Cape Town, including Rudyard Kipling, Robert Baden-Powell, Jan Smuts and Cecil Rhodes. All of them would visit 'Mon Desir', the home of Sir Henry Juta, barrister and Speaker of the Cape House. Under Table Mountain is the story of Louise Juta, the youngest of Sir Henry's four daughters, from her birth until she left South Africa in 1904 to go to school in England and never return. It was in Switzerland that author Nigel Patten befriended Lady Luia Forbes, as she was then, during the last years of her long life. Visiting every day for games of Scrabble and conversation, Under Table Mountain is the result of Luia's fascinating personal reminiscences. Nigel Patten was born in London and moved to Switzerland at the age of 21. He now resides at a ski resort not far from Montreux on Lake Geneva. Inspired to write Under Table Mountain by his cherished friendship with Luia and a general love of history.

The Mystery of Table Mountain is a fast moving action packed epic of a young college man, James Raymond, who is framed for murder by his uncle, aunt and her brother. The story takes James out west as he eludes lawmen. It is here he sees the inaccessible Table Mountain and is enamored with its beauty and security. Through his ingenuity James finds a way to the top of the mountain and discovers a paradise. The day after he discovers an access to the mountain top he miraculously rescues a young woman from Indians and shares his “Garden of Eden” with her in a clandestine relationship.
The story has several romances threaded through its fabric adding spice as it unfolds. The story is told in first person to enable the reader to feel James’ pain and ecstasy more intimately.
